EU Product Identity
Under development — Early Access

From spreadsheet to Digital Product Passport

EU Product Identity imports product data from Excel or CSV, checks it before saving, collects missing details from suppliers via a link and publishes the product passport with a QR code — without building your own compliance infrastructure.

The platform is still being built — Early Access customers can register now.

Why digital product passports are coming

  • ESPRThe ESPR — Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation introduces the Digital Product Passport for a growing number of product groups.
  • EU Battery RegulationFor batteries, a digital product passport is explicitly mandatory.
  • From 18 February 2027From this date onwards, the battery passport obligation applies to the battery categories concerned.

This information reflects the current state of EU legislation and does not constitute legal advice.

Process

How it works

  1. Download the template

Download the data template and enter your products — Excel or CSV.

  2. Import with a check run

The check run lists error rows with their row number before anything is saved.

  3. Request data from suppliers

Collect missing details through a supplier link; the supplier does not need an account.

  4. Publish the reference page

Publish the public passport page with a QR code (PNG/SVG) and your hosted reference page.

Scope of functions

What the platform does today

The following functionality is already implemented and usable in Early Access.

Product identity & data core

Create products and maintain the data fields per schema in a structured way — one consistent core instead of scattered spreadsheets.

Evidence with provenance

Every statement that matters for compliance is tied to a piece of evidence with unbroken provenance and remains traceable.

AI support for data capture

Data from documents is generated as a suggestion. Approval is given exclusively by people (human-in-the-loop).

Passport engine

Versioned passports, a QR code following GS1 Digital Link and a public, mobile-first passport page.

Individual webpage per product

A hosted reference page for each product as a link and reference for the product passport — immediately presentable, with your own logo, product image and custom design.

Supplier self-disclosure

Suppliers submit requested evidence via a simple, password-free link — without an account of their own.

CSV/Excel import & export

Create or update many products at once: download the template, fill it in, upload it. A check shows every row before importing; the export returns your data in the same format.

Change history

An audit trail records every product-related change: who, when, what and on what basis.

Customer perspective

What this means for you as a customer

Four points that make the difference in day-to-day work.

Time saved

Existing company, document and supplier data is reused instead of being entered a second time.

Trust

The origin of every value is visible. That replaces claims with verifiable information.

Conformity

Regulation-based schemas define the structure — no home-made form that turns out not to fit later on.

No lock-in

Open standards such as GS1 Digital Link and the export of your data keep the way out open.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

What is a Digital Product Passport?
A Digital Product Passport is an electronic data record for a product that can be retrieved through a data carrier such as a QR code. The EU is introducing it step by step through the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (ESPR); delegated acts define which product groups are covered. For batteries it is required under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. Status: 30 September 2026, not legal advice.
Can I import my product data from Excel or CSV?
Yes. The platform reads CSV and Excel (.xlsx) files. Before anything is saved, a check run shows which rows contain errors and why. Empty cells do not change existing values.
How do I get data from my suppliers?
You send a supplier link. The supplier adds the requested details in the browser, no account required. You then review and approve the details.
What does it cost to get started?
The trial is free for 30 days. The current plans and their included quotas are listed in the plans section of this page.
Is EU Product Identity an official EU website?
No. EU Product Identity is a privately operated platform and has no connection to any institution or body of the European Union.
